Discussing ATX West with LMI Technologies

Q&A with | LMI Technologies Inc.

Tell us about your company.

LMI Technologies designs and manufactures award-winning FactorySmart® laser, snapshot, and line confocal sensors to improve the quality and efficiency of factory production by providing fast, accurate, reliable inspection solutions that leverage smart 3D technologies.

Unlike contact-based measurement or 2D vision, our products remove complexity and dramatically reduce implementation cost while achieving repeatable, highly accurate measurement results.

To learn more about how LMI’s inspection solutions can benefit your business, we invite you to contact us at contact@lmi3d.com or visit us at www.lmi3d.com to explore the possibilities of smart 3D technology.

Your company will be exhibiting at ATX West & Design & Mfg Expo, which of the 5 shows is your target and what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

Our focus is on the ATX component of the show because it showcases cutting-edge automation technology, and attracts people from around the world looking for vision solutions that drive greater automation in factory production systems and processes.

What makes your booth a must visit for Expo Attendees?

One, we will be introducing a new smart 3D laser profile sensor with a 2 meter field of view, the Gocator 2490. This sensor is designed for scanning large targets in packaging and logistics (e.g., box volume gauging) and other applications where greater scan coverage is required.

We will also be featuring a vision guided robot demonstration at our booth using Gocator 3D laser profile sensors. Robot integration is easy using Gocator 3D sensors, as calibration and robot communication protocols are built directly into the sensor––providing the robot with critical vision guidance capabilities.

Finally, we will be introducing our newly acquired product lineup of FocalSpec 3D line confocal sensors for complex 3D/2D surface inspection of challenging targets, such as curved edge display glass, multi-layered glass, and highly reflective electronics components.

TheExpo has many educational sessions, forums & Demo’s, is your company involved in any of them this year?

We encourage people to come and check out our feature demo at booth #4811 of a robot-integrated Gocator 2490 scanning large targets with a 2 meter field of view. It’s going to be something you don’t want to miss!

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions, pavilions etc. you plan on attending?

ATX West has such a great roster of exhibitors that it can be hard to choose what to focus on, but when we do walk the show we will be paying special attention to robotic technologies and companies designing solutions that advance automation for inline production systems and processes.

Advanced Manufacturing is undertaking rapid advancements, be it 3D Printing and the materials used to automation and robotics.  Automation Technology is a huge part for many manufacturers, give us an idea on how your company and product is being utilized now in the smart factory.

Our FactorySmart® 3D sensors are used to improve production across the gamut of industrial applications, from factory automation to quality inspection and material/process optimization.

Give us your thoughts on what the future holds for manufacturers and automation technology.

The short answer is, the rise of vision guided robots. As we move toward greater factory automation, process control engineers and automation technology experts will face the challenge of how to best integrate robots into manufacturing lines. The solution will be driven by our ability to change how we think about part flow, and how quickly we can learn the many ways both robot and 3D sensors work in tandem to achieve faster, more efficient production.
