Güdel Introduces New and Improved High Payload Gantry Robots

Innovative ZP-6 and ZP-7 modules deliver heavier payload capacity with smaller footprint and improved maintenance characteristics.

ANN ARBOR, MICHIGAN. New ZP-6 and ZP-7 two-axis linear modules from Güdel deliver 25-percent more payload capacity than previous designs with slimmer profiles and improved maintenance characteristics. The ZP-6 and -7 are designed to meet the needs of heavy payload materials handling applications, are available in Y axis lengths to 100m and can be configured with multiple Z axis arms.

Particularly strong emphasis is placed on maintainability. These ZP machines use third-generation Güdel cam follower cartridges which take 10 minutes to change compared to hours for traditional linear bearings. Güdel is the only company dedicated solely to auxiliary linear motion for robots and automation, and the ZP product line is fully, vertically integrated with a leaner design to maximize workspace.

"Güdels new ZP product line has a leaner, more rigid design that allows you to do more with less," said Joe Campbell, Vice President, Güdel. "The new ZP-6 and -7 have smaller beam cross section, and increased capacity for large payload part handling applications such as machine tending where space is tight and parts are heavy."

Highlights of the new and improved ZP-6 and ZP-7 include

* 25% higher payload capacity
* Quick-change Güdel cam followers for easier maintenance
* Redesigned beams with narrower cross sections that fit smaller spaces
* Machined pockets for guideways which is more secure and rigid than flush mounted guideways
* New aluminum carriage requires less Z extrusion and lower ceiling height for same stroke
* Repeatability ± 0.02 mm … great for applications with tight tolerances

With improvements to payload capacity, design for maintainability and high-quality Güdel parts, the new heavy-duty models of the ZP family line extend the reach of virtually any application. Güdel ZP two-axis linear modules come in seven (7) sizes. Multiple carriages can be independent or linked, and options include a rotary axis and telescopic vertical axis. Güdel engineers provide sizing and application assistance, and a free modules catalog serves as an excellent application guide (free download at http://gudel.lead-central.com/52).
