Pirate3D will be demonstrating its printer in the United States for the first time. The company's Chief Executive Pirate (a.k.a. CEO) Roger Chang, COO Brendan Goh and Chief Designer You Jun Tsang will be giving interviews at booth #32024.
"We are very excited. The US is a key market for Pirate3D, and this will be the very first time our US customers see the Buccaneer. This is a huge step for the company," Chang said.
The company launched a crowdfunding campaign for the Buccaneer on Kickstarter in late May 2013. Pirate3D's campaign closed on June 29 amassing US$1.4 million in pledges from 3,520 backers. This makes the Buccaneer one of the most successful crowdfunding campaigns of 2013, and the most successful fused filament fabrication (FFF) 3D printer on the site.
"We were amazed by the enthusiastic support when we debuted the Buccaneer on Kickstarter. Our goal of US$100,000 was reached in less than 10 minutes," said Chang.
Encased in a rigid two-piece polycarbonate frame, the Buccaneer sports a minimalist design with no buttons and only a discrete light indicator.
The Buccaneer can reach vertical printing resolution as high as 85 microns depositing plastic in layers indistinguishable to the naked eye. Moreover, the printer can also print continuously for more than 200 hours.
The machine also features a heated printing platform, auto-calibration functionality that allows to precisely position the printing platform for higher quality of prints, and a full-metal unibody extruder for smooth flow of filament. The printer can function as a server, wirelessly communicating with personal computers, tablets, and smartphones.
"We're also developing a 3D printing cloud service to enable our users seamlessly download and print models in one click, and our own 3D modeling technology which makes creating complex designs even simpler than coding in Processing. Pirate3D is not just a hardware company. We pay equal attention to our software, and invite visitors to our booth to learn more," Chang said.
The final iteration of the first Buccaneer is currently available for preorder at US$497 on the company's website pirate3d.com. The company will start shipping preorder units in April.
