QUAN Sees Huge Market Potential in PIAP's Oil Spill Cleanup Bots
The mosquito-like robots are designed to swarm offshore oil spills, land on a spill, and vacuum up the oil into a floating, detachable tank that can be retrieved by emergency response vessels.
HOUSTON--Emerging robotics company Quantum International Corp. (OTCBB: QUAN) sees major market potential in a new oil-spill cleanup robot designed by Poland's Industrial Research Institute for Automation and Measurements (PIAP).
The mosquito-like robots are designed to swarm offshore oil spills, land on a spill, and vacuum up the oil into a floating, detachable tank that can be retrieved by emergency response vessels. It's a concept that Quantum believes could have incredible implications for the drilling and transport of petroleum in the trillion-dollar global energy industry.
"PIAP recreates the simplicity of nature in its robotics designs in order to create automatons that are more efficient and independent than anything we've seen before," said Quantum CEO Robert Federowicz. "The fascinating mosquito-like function of these cleanup robots has the potential to completely revolutionize the way oil spills are handled all over the world. The market potential here is enormous, and we look forward to the possibility of helping PIAP develop and market these incredible machines."
The cleanup robot design is only the latest in a string of robotics innovations that PIAP is considering for commercialization. PIAP is also working on revolutionary new robotics tools for anti-terrorism applications and many other designs. Quantum is currently conducting due diligence toward a definitive agreement with the prestigious institution.
Quantum is focused on aggressive growth as it competes alongside robotics companies including iRobot Corporation (NASDAQ: IRBT), Honda Motor Co., Ltd. (NYSE: HMC), AeroVironment, Inc. (NASDAQ: AVAV) and, potentially soon, Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL).

Schmalz Technology Development - The Right Gripper for Every Task
In order to interact with their environment and perform the tasks, lightweight robots, like all industrial robots, depend on tools - and in many cases these are vacuum grippers. These form the interface to the workpiece and are therefore a decisive part of the overall system. With their help, the robots can pick up, move, position, process, sort, stack and deposit a wide variety of goods and components. Vacuum gripping systems allow particularly gentle handling of workpieces, a compact and space-saving system design and gripping from above. Precisely because the object does not have to be gripped, the vacuum suction cupenables gapless positioning next to each other.
