Abbott Technologies Powers Advanced Robotic Vehicle

Abbott power supplies deliver the rugged reliability needed for a lifetime of four-wheeling in extreme conditions.

Sun Valley, CA, March 19, 2012 - Abbott Technologies proves once again that making reliable solutions for extreme conditions is what they do best, this time in a robotic vehicle created by Team Scorpion. The 2005 Scorpion® MKIV-A robotic vehicle, or as the team calls it, CHROME, competed in two driverless car competitions, the DARPA 2005 Grand Challenge and the 2007 DARPA Urban Challenge. This agile robotic vehicle is ideal for civilian recreational, law enforcement search and rescue, and military applications, and it demands a power system as rugged as its chassis.

The robotic CHROME currently uses two 500 watt CS500S28, 28 volt power supplies, one 200 watt AM200S28 power supply, and a few overvoltage protection assemblies from Abbott Technologies in its electrical power system. Team Scorpion® plans on replacing the current COTS DC-AC inverter on the CHROME with one from Abbott as soon as a new model is released. The Abbott products on-board power the mission processor package and the communications package for the vehicle. Dwaine Jungen of Preferred Chassis Fabrication Inc., chose Abbott Technologies because they provide the ruggedized mil spec products needed to power the robotic vehicle off-the-shelf.
