Attendees visiting our booth (LS-5809) will see a live robotic demonstration of our QC1 Micro Tool Changer and view our Force/Torque Sensors and Compliance Compensators. ATI’s Tool Changers allow robots to exchange end-of-arm-tools (EOAT) automatically.

PACK EXPO 2019 - ATI Industrial Automation

PACK EXPO Q&A with | ATI Industrial Automation

Tell us about your company.

ATI Industrial Automation is a world-leading developer of Automatic Tool Changers, Multi-Axis Force/Torque Sensing Systems, Utility Couplers, Robotic Collision Sensors, Robotic Deburring Tools, and Compliance Devices. Our products are found in thousands of successful applications around the world. Since 1989, our engineers have been developing cost-effective, state-of-the-art products and solutions to improve manufacturing productivity. Our Mission is to provide customers around the world with high-quality robotic peripheral devices, tooling and sensors that enhance customer profitability by increasing the effectiveness, flexibility, safety, and productivity of their automation applications. We accomplish this through continuous improvement of existing products, product customization and new product innovation. Our engineering-centric staff focuses on providing customer solutions to robotic, automation and sensing applications.

Your company will be exhibiting at PACK Expo, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?

The packaging industry presents many opportunities for automation technology. Manufacturers are looking to get more out of their resources, seeking solutions that make processes more efficient and more cost-effective. ATI End-Effectors are instrumental to increasing the value of robotic applications like machine tending, palletizing, and material handling. Our robotic tool changers and compliance compensators make robots a more dynamic and adaptable part of the system.

What makes your booth a must visit for PACK Expo Attendees?

Attendees visiting our booth (LS-5809) will see a live robotic demonstration of our QC1 Micro Tool Changer and view our Force/Torque Sensors and Compliance Compensators. ATI’s Tool Changers allow robots to exchange end-of-arm-tools (EOAT) automatically. Compliance Compensators overcome misalignment and make robotic programming easier. Force/Torque Sensors give robots the ability to feel and adapt to their environment.

When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see?  Any educational sessions, pavilions etc. you plan on attending?

We are excited to be in Las Vegas for the show this year and particularly interested in visiting the Interactive Robotics Zone. Automation is growing into new markets and this exhibit is a great way to highlight the versatility of automation solutions. Another must-see for me personally is the Reusable Packaging Pavilion as everyone can benefit from environmentally conscious packaging practices.

The factory floor is undertaking rapid advancements, be it automation, robotics, machine vision or data.  Automation Technology is a huge part for many manufacturers, give us an idea on how your company and product is being utilized now in the smart factory.

The focus for manufacturers across many industries is on getting the most out of their resources by leveraging technology and machines alongside humans. ATI end-effectors offer a user-friendly way to do more with industrial and collaborative robots. We know robots by themselves are not very useful. With easy-to-use robotic accessories from ATI, robots become dynamic, flexible, intuitive additions to the workforce.

Give us your thoughts on what the future holds for manufacturers and automation technology.

The future of manufacturing is wide open. In today’s market it’s more important to be nimble than it is to be massive. Manufacturers are in search of innovative yet practical solutions that are flexible, scalable, and most of all efficient. Collaborative robot technology is opening the door for so many new applications; we are excited to see what’s in store.

3D Vision: Ensenso B now also available as a mono version!

This compact 3D camera series combines a very short working distance, a large field of view and a high depth of field - perfect for bin picking applications. With its ability to capture multiple objects over a large area, it can help robots empty containers more efficiently. Now available from IDS Imaging Development Systems. In the color version of the Ensenso B, the stereo system is equipped with two RGB image sensors. This saves additional sensors and reduces installation space and hardware costs. Now, you can also choose your model to be equipped with two 5 MP mono sensors, achieving impressively high spatial precision. With enhanced sharpness and accuracy, you can tackle applications where absolute precision is essential. The great strength of the Ensenso B lies in the very precise detection of objects at close range. It offers a wide field of view and an impressively high depth of field. This means that the area in which an object is in focus is unusually large. At a distance of 30 centimetres between the camera and the object, the Z-accuracy is approx. 0.1 millimetres. The maximum working distance is 2 meters. This 3D camera series complies with protection class IP65/67 and is ideal for use in industrial environments.
